Basic Christmas Lights Description

     The tradition of Christmas Lights really started in Germany and later in England when people used candles in their Christmas trees. This tradition continued through the early part of the 1900's, but in 1882 Edward Johnson, who worked for Thomas Edison, lit a Christmas tree in New York with small electric light bulbs. Edward Johnson also created the first real string of Christmas lights for mass production and by 1900 Department stores were using this new technology to light up displays. Later in 1917 Albert Sadacca got the idea to make safe light strings and bulbs after a fire in New York was cause by using candles in a Christmas tree. Sadacca's family had made novelty lights before and Albert adapted some of that technology into making his "Safe Christmas Lights"  His business took off and soon became one of the biggest Christmas lighting manufacturers in the world.

     Nowadays it's hard to imagine the Christmas season without Christmas lights lining the rooftops of buildings and lighting Christmas trees in homes.
