Icicle-Light Installation

We get many questions concerning the installation of icicles lights. Each home is different but the installation is about the same. Depending on the number of lights in your sets and the distance in feet each set covers will have to be determined before you plan the electrical supplies. In some cases you can run the power from each corner and just meet in the center of the house. The new UL listing suggest that you only plug 3 sets end to end.

Or you can run a common power supply along your building and plug the icicle sets into it where needed with our quick connectors.

Example:

Instructions on how to modify our Quick Connector slip on plugs to make custom wiring.

The body of the plug has a cut out on one side for the wire to pass through it. A notch will have to made on the opposite side of the plug body. This is best done by cutting the sides of the notch with a sharp tool such as a pruning sheer ( A knife can be used, but only with CAUTION ). The tab can then be torn out from the plug body using a pair of needle nose pliers.  You can also do this with a pair of diagonal pliers. You must not completely snip the side as this pressure can crack the body of the plug. If you use the diagonal pliers, apply pressure and tear the sides at the same time as cutting through the plastic.

Once you have modified the plug base, place the plug along the wire where you need a power connection and slide the plug back ( Be sure to slide the back on from the factory cut side on to complete the ) installation of the plug.

As far as the power requirements for mini lights most home owners have plenty of power. One 20-amp circuit will power up to 4400 mini lights. So if you are using an 18-gauge wire and quick connectors you will be able to power off this one cord 15 sets of 100 lights each.

Don't forget your plugs!
